Thames Valley Police issues crime prevention advice following recent burglaries in Enstone

Alert message sent 12/04/2018 15:47:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Thames Valley Police is aware of a number of burglaries that have taken place in the Enstone area.

The incidents have involved car keys being stolen from homes that have been left on display near windows or doors. In some cases, thieves have put a long stick or fishing rod through letterboxes to hook the car keys and make off with the vehicle. This is often referred to as a ‘Vamoose’ burglary.

To help reduce the risk of becoming a victim, you can take a number of simple steps:

• keep all valuables and keys out of sight and out of reach of doors and windows
• keep front and back doors locked, even when you’re at home
• install a burglar alarm with a visible alarm box
• fit a door chain and spyhole for extra security
• store high value items in a hidden safe
• lock side gates to prevent easy access to the rear of the property
